With the job starting, and me getting into a bit of a routine, here's a little update for you...
So The Ivy has been great. I like the fact that I can have my days to take classes, do things, go on auditions, and then work at nights. Ive been meeting alot of people so thats been great. In fact, I was out the other night and some guy goes to me "hey youre the American from the Ivy...SHELBY!!! With the Ring!" hahah that was funny
Saturday I went to the beach with a new friend Erica. We met at a group interview. She too studied abroad (but for 5 months) and loved it so she came back. A jewish New Yorker.... gotta love it.
Saturday night I met up with Erica Roth. A girl from Pikesville I have known for YEARS. What started out to be a night of just meeting for a drink, it turned into a night of random fun. We met up with her australian friends that ended up taking us out to Kings Cross. An area of all bars and clubs. I was still a bit under the weather so I made it an early night but non the less, a good time.
Sunday I met up with the other erica and we headed to the Australia Beer Festival. Yes yes, im not a beer fanatic but it was really cool to try all of the different stuff. We went to a birthday get together I was invited to at the Sydney Opera Bar (at the opera house along the water) and headed back to the festival. Ended the evening with Pancakes on the Rocks (a go to must in Sydney) Shes hilarious and a ton of fun.
Tonight I worked with a supervisor and a manager. I was the only bar attendant. It turned out to be really fun and a great way for them to get to know me. We all really warmed up to each other. They started to become very fascinated with my accent and had me record things on their phones. Liam, a manager was like "its as if we had paris hilton working for us" hahaha really!?!
The Pool Bar opened last week and apparently the place is crazy. I think I am going to go on Sunday with some of the staff. Im always too tired to drink and party after work so it could be a fun way of socializing and enjoying the weather.
A busy week ahead of work, taking classes, apartment searching for 2 weeks when I have to move out of here and some other things here and there. Hope all is well in the States with the Election coming up.
PLEASE send me an update email! misss u

The Ivy
So I started working for the Merivale corporation at The Ivy. A $164 billion dollar property, I would not call it "some bar". The place is INSANE and SO nice. Not a college park pub or anything like Baltimore. The Hemmes family is the owner and creator of this Vegas inspired scene. I am working at Ivy Bar. However, there are about 6 restaurants, bars, clubs, and even stores amongst the property. I am most amazed by the pool that opened this thursday. $1500 for a cabana and only "members" can get in. The "changing rooms" are amazing and it is actually a night club. Thats what the club is called. I cant imagine what will be going on in there.
There is a sushi train restaurant and at 10pm, employees can pay $15 for all you can eat. There are also a bunch of stores on the property where we can get discounts.
Yesterday some guy bought 3 bottles of moet ($140 each) just to send over to other people. This was lunch time and he was STILL there at 6:30 when I got off....
Everyone that come in is coming from work so it is a very nice and classy scene. No tank tops for me. We actually have to wear Ivy Jeans, converse that we get from them and a nice shirt that apparently retails for $100.
Sunday the Australian MTV awards after party is being held there. Very cool.
So, I will be working there here and there. Making my rent and money for the week along with new friends and a great learning experience ( I have to take 5 tests for it).

Home sweet home
Hey there,
I hope everyone has an easy fast today. Happy birthday Max!
Well I finally settled into my new temporary place. The woman whose house this is, is about to have a baby. In 6 weeks her family is coming to stay so I am still in search but it is nice to be unpacked.
Today I went to services...4 hours, I think that is a record for me! The sermon was about mistakes. How there are no mistakes but that "everything happens for a reason". Yes, when he said those words I think my heart skipped a beat....as most of you know, that is what I believe and always say. Something I have been thinking alot about. It was interesting hearing a rabbi speak with an Australian accent :-)
I came home and napped before heading to the Streimers for break fast (jasmin has been taking good care of me. She's even the one that set up the living arrangement and her sisters are lovely)
I taught at Vclub again last night, filled out paper work for the Ivy and have a total of 2 interviews by the end of tomorrow. SO, slowly but surely....no worries no hurries. I am thinking about more corporate stuff these days. Being able to dress up for work. You KNOW im used to a routine and I am usually ALWAYS busy. So im just trying to keep myself active and doing as much as I can to make progress.
Sending my love to all....check out my new pics

Welcome
Hey everyone,
welcome! I figured instead of swamping you with emails, you could check me out on a blog. That way it is up to YOU to stay updated:-) I swear my life could be a tv show but a blog will have to do (if it gets too creepy...ill close it down)
Living:
Well I arrived a little over a week ago and staying in Coogee beach. I have been "apartment sitting" for Jimmy, a kid that is studying abroad from UMD. They are away in New Zealand so it worked out very well.
I spent the week and a half looking for places to move and had a short term offer come up through a friend. So, instead of rushing into a place, I will be staying there.
Job:
My first night that I arrived I was heading to WTC (work travel company. They sponsored my VISA) I stopped into a dance, pilates, fitness club (www.vclub.com.au) and I gave them my resume. Within the hour, they called me to cover a pilates class THAT NIGHT. I received a staff card and have been taking dance classes there! Pretty cool. I taught ballet also a few days later. One night after jazz/funk, I started talking to the teacher, Michelle. We hit it off and exchanged numbers. Well within the past week we started looking for places together! So dont fret fam, I wont be living with an asian male. It will be cool to live with an Aussie girl...and an amazing dancer at that!
I also have been handing in my resume to places and actually had a trial run at a place called The Ivy (www.merivale.com/#/ivy/ivyroom). They said they want to hire me but I am waiting to get my tax file number to fill out paper work.
I have an intership opportunity with a marketing firm that actually does marketing for tourism in Las Vegas (of all places lol) However, it is not paid. But it could be a good place to get my foot in the door and a place to go when im not working but am in the city.
Tomorrow night I am working at the Final Rugby game. (like our superbowl) WTC is like an agent for jobs so they called me for this one.
Slowly but surely making progress.
To be continued...
